Thomas Leads Cougars at ITA Regional

CARY, N.C. - Easton Thomas led the College of the Charleston men's tennis team at the ITA Regional in Cary, N.C., with a 3-1 weekend in singles action. Three other Cougars also competed including Andre Limon who went 2-2, Benedikt Henning who finished 1-1 and Johnny Wang who ended 0-2.
Thomas led the Cougars in singles action, picking up wins over Nicolas Arduh of NCAT 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-1, on Friday. He then followed up with a 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory over Dustin Werner of Campbell on Saturday and a 6-4, 6-4 win over Henrik Atlevi of Furman on Sunday.
Senior Bendikt Henning began singles action on Friday, opening the set with a 5-0 lead over Luiz Faria of Coastal Carolina before retiring from action. In doubles action Henning and Thomas teamed up to defeat Giusca/Vialmin of Clemson 6-3, 6-3 before dropping the next matchup against Christoforou/Keist of UNCC 6-0, 6-3.
Limon opened singles play with a close loss to Yash Parikh of Davision 7-5, 7-6 (4) before bouncing back with two wins in the consolation bracket over Joseph Schrader of NCSU (6-2, 6-1) and James Roelofse of Furman (6-3, 2-6, 6-2).
Wang finished 0-2 on the weekend after dropping the Friday opener to Nico Grewe of UNCG 6-4, 6-1 before dropping the Saturday consolation bracket opener to Kyle Frankel of Elon 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Head coach Jay Bruner and his squad now look to the Charleston Challenge Oct. 26 - 28, held at the Tennis Complex at Patriots Point.
