Cougars Snuff Out Phoenix in Straight Sets

ELON, N.C. --- Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) slammed down a match-high 15 kills to pace three Cougars in double figures, and Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) recorded a double-double to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a straight-set victory over Elon in Colonial Athletic Association play on Sunday afternoon.
The victory marks College of Charleston's (20-10, 11-5 CAA) third consecutive straight-set win, as the Cougars clinch the No. 3 seed in next weekend's CAA Championship with a 25-21, 25-16, 25-13 decision over Elon (13-15, 4-12 CAA). Charleston finished the match with 44 kills, 54 digs, four service aces, four blocks, and a .333 hitting percentage; the Cougars held Elon to 29 kills, 39 digs, four blocks, and a .099 attacking clip.
Freed put down 15 kills to go along with seven digs, two service aces, and a .382 hitting percentage (15-2-34) to pace the offense. Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) posted 11 kills, seven digs, and two blocks while attacking at a .312 (11-1-32) clip, as Peyton Eisnaugle (Dallas, Texas) put down 10 kills and hit an even .500 (10-2-16).
Beckman turned in her seventh double-double of the season with 32 assists and 10 digs; Logan Mansuky (San Diego, Calif.) and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) finished with 15 and 13 digs, respectively. Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) collected five kills to move into 10th on the program's all-time list with 1,327 career kills.
Nori Thomas led the way for Elon with eight kills, while Leah Daniel added seven smashes and two blocks. Kodi Garcia and Maddie Jaudon finished with 23 assists and 12 digs, respectively.
The Cougars will begin their postseason run in the opening round of the CAA Championship on Friday. Third-seeded Charleston will take on No. 6 seed UNCW at 6:00 pm in the Johnson Center, located adjacent to TD Arena.
