CHARLESTON, S.C. – Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo has announced the signing of Slade Coetzee and Halli Trinkle to the College of Charleston women's tennis program after both signed National Letters of Intent.
Coetzee joins the Cougars from Miami Beach, Fla. A 5-star recruit, she is currently ranked #39 in the nation having reached the round of 16 in the U.S. National Clay Court Championships.
"We are thrilled to add Slade to next year's team," Anastopoulo said. "She has proven herself to be among the nation's elite, beating two former national champions during her run at the national clay courts this summer. She is a great competitor and her aggressive, hard hitting style is going to be a lot of fun to watch and coach over the next four years, she will be a crowd favorite."
In the state of Florida, Coetzee is ranked no. 7 with a universal tennis rating of 10.75 after going 34-16 through the season.
"I looked at a lot of schools but never had that feeling where everything was right: the coach, the team, the school, the town and the general vibe of everything" Coetzee said on her signing. "Once I stepped onto the College of Charleston campus, I knew I wanted to be a there."
Trinkle joins the Cougars from Charlestown, Ind., after playing at Indiana State High School where she won a State Championship.
"Halli is going to be a great addition to our program," Anastopoulo said. "She understands what it takes to be a leader of a team and a champion as she became the first player from her high school to win the Indiana High School State Singles Championship."
A 4-star recruit, Trinkle is ranked #80 in the nation with a universal tennis rating of 10.25 and is currently ranked no. 2 for the state of Indiana.
"When I took a visit in the summer, I knew right away this was the school I wanted to go to," Trinkle said on her commitment. "The campus is gorgeous; the coaches are awesome and the girls on the team treated me like family."
"Halli's energy is infectious," Anastopoulo continued. "She is a fiery competitor, we are excited about what she is bringing to the College of Charleston."
