Men's Tennis Makes Home Debut with Two Weekend Matches

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (2-1) makes its home debut this weekend at Patriots Point, when they are slated to host the SC State Bulldogs (0-2) on Saturday and the NC A&T Aggies (0-5) on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
The Cougars will look to bounce back from a 6-1 loss on the road to Furman last weekend. CofC won the doubles point, but struggled with the Paladins without the services of top flight ace Juan Estevarina, which put strain on the rest of the rotation.
The Cougars haven't faced the Bulldogs since a 6-1 win in 2007, prior to the Jay Bruner coaching era. SC State comes off an 11-9 season that saw them reach the MEAC finals before falling to Florida A&M in the championship match. The Bulldogs claimed a doubles point against the mighty South Carolina Gamecocks earlier this season, while Edgar Diaz is the one player to earn a singles win so far this year, doing so in flight six against Charlotte.
CofC and NC A&T met early last season in Greensboro, resulting in a 6-1 win for the Cougars. The Aggies have had a rough start to the year, getting swept in four of their five matches to date. The one point they've earned this season came when Jorge Goenaga defeated Liberty's Alex Poynter by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.
Live results for CofC's match with the Aggies will be available at CofCStats.com. Admission to all home CofC tennis matches are free of charge.
