Cougars Host Youngstown State to Open 12-Game Homestand

Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston begins a 12-game homestand on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Youngstown State at Patriots Point.
The Cougars then host the Holy City Showdown this weekend, face Duke in a twinbill next Wednesday and finish the home stay with the Charleston Invitational March 15-18.
Wednesday will be 80s night, with music from that decade played throughout the doubleheader and a prize awarded to the fan with the best 80s outfit. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for youths and $2 each for groups of 10 or more.

Charleston (10-7) won three of five games last weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational, with Kelly Sinclair leading the way with seven hits and eight RBI to raise her season total to 17, the top mark on the team and third in the CAA. Sinclair is tied with Yari Felix for second on the Cougars with a .333 batting average, trailing only Taylor DuPree at .414.
During the tournament at USF, DuPree moved into third place in school history with 222 career hits and into a tie for third with 140 runs scored, and her .382 batting average remains first in the Cougar record book. Jordin Jones and Taylor Belfiore enter the week tied for the team lead with two homers and both have driven in 13 runs.
Izzy Berouty won twice in Florida last weekend and has seven victories on the season along with five complete games.
Youngstown State (4-9) was picked to finish second in the Horizon League preseason poll after a 2017 campaign which saw the Penguins win 31 games including a school-record 17 in conference play. YSU also played in the Horizon League tournament championship game.
The Penguins are led at the plate by Yazmine Romero with a .409 average. Nikki Saibene (.302, 3 HR, 11 RBI) and Maddi Lusk (12 RBI) are also off to hot starts. As a team, YSU owns a batting average of .297.
The teams have played two games, splitting a doubleheader at Patriots Point on March 11, 2015.
