BLACKSBURG, Va. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team fell to Virginia Tech 6-1 in the 2019 season opener with freshman Robby Krick earning his first singles victory of the season in flight six.
Doubles action kicked off the evenings play, Benedikt Henning and Johnny Wang teaming up in flight two with a 7-6 (7-5) victory over the Hokies No. 43 ranked pair of Korsgaard and Ribeiro. The victory was not enough in doubles play as Virginia Tech took both other matches to earn the point.
Singles action followed with the Cougars picking up the lone point courtesy of Krick on court six, the freshman taking Chase Bernstine to a tiebreaker in the opening set before bouncing back with a 6-3, 10-8 victory. No. 26 ranked Mitch Harper of the Hokies defeated Henning on court one with No. 30 Jason Kos defeating Easton Thomas on court two. Kswaery Pociej and Andre Limon also falling in straight sets with Wang falling to No. 116 Henrik Korsgaard.
The Cougars now look to a three-game road stretch at the beginning of February beginning with Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 1 and finishing at Florida A&M on Feb. 3.
