CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will host the UNCW Seahawks on the final weekend of the regular season with a top-three seed in next week's CAA Championship on the line. First serve on Saturday is slated for 1:00 p.m. with Sunday's finale scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Cougars will honor their 2021 senior class prior to first serve on Sunday.
Charleston (14-11, 7-7 CAA) has already clinched a berth in the CAA Championship and currently occupies the fourth seed with two matches to play. UNCW (4-21, 3-11 CAA) split with William & Mary last weekend to enter the season's final series with a 3-11 mark in league play.
QUICK SETS
- The Cougars earned a split with Northeastern over the weekend to head into the final series of the regular season with a 7-7 mark in CAA play. Charleston, behind a record-setting performance from the service line, opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over the Huskies on Saturday.
- With Saturday's victory, the Cougars punched their ticket to the CAA Championship for the second straight season and the eighth time in the last nine years.
- The Cougars enjoyed one of the best days at the service line in program history last Saturday setting a four-set, single-match record with 13 service aces. Nine of the Charleston's 13 aces were accounted for in the first and third sets.
- Junior Cat Schmid marked her first collegiate start in style last Saturday by establishing a new four-set, single-match record with seven service aces. The Prospect, Kentucky native recorded at least two aces in each set while surpassing fellow junior Gabi Bailey's four-set mark of six aces set earlier this season.
- Freshman Tynley Smeltzer continued her strong play in the libero jersey with a stellar weekend at Northeastern averaging a league-best 6.00 digs per set to earn her first career CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
- Junior Lexi Wierzbicki has been on a tear over the last 10 matches averaging 3.67 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the league over that span. Her .291 hitting percentage during that stretch was also good for ninth in the CAA.
- The Cougars' blocking corps has been tremendous over the last 10 matches leading the CAA with an average of 2.51 blocks per set over that span. Redshirt junior Claire Campbell and senior Molly Russell have played a significant role in those efforts ranking fourth and fifth in the CAA, respectively, during that stretch each averaging 1.18 blocks per frame.
- Charleston will honor their 2021 senior class consisting of Russell, setter Brooke Harris and team manager Lilly McGonegal prior to Sunday's match.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
- UNCW is 4-21 overall and 3-11 in CAA play with wins against William & Mary, James Madison and Northeastern in league action.
- The Seahawks are ranked third in the conference in opponent blocks per set (1.80) while averaging 13.24 digs per frame as a team.
- Katie Lanz (2.52), Brianna Haggerty (2.21) and Sarah Blakely (2.15) lead the Seahawk attack each averaging over two kills per set.
- Jadyn Barry and Quinn Manley pace the backrow for the UNCW averaging 3.78 and 3.15 digs per set, respectively.
- Brooke Hanshumaker has been involved in 61 of the Seahawks' 130 blocks so far this season.

- Admission is free of charge for all College of Charleston volleyball matches at TD Arena.
- Gates will open one hour prior to first serve of the opening match each day.
- College of Charleston's clear bag policy is in effect for all matches played at TD Arena this fall. The full policy can be found here.
- College of Charleston has instituted a campus-wide policy mandating masks covering an individual's nose and mouth be worn at all times (unless actively eating or drinking) in public areas of all campus buildings.
- There is no designated general parking area for games at TD Arena. There are various parking garages and paid lots in the vicinity of TD Arena that all spectators can utilize.
- Alcohol will be available for purchase at all CofC volleyball matches this fall with last call prior to the third set of the final match each day.
