MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team closed out its spring season versus Colonial Athletic Association rival Elon on Senior Night at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
The Phoenix (3-3-0, 2-1-0 CAA) prevailed on the road with a 1-0 shutout. They had six shots with four on frame. Abby Fusca scored off the cross from Jessica Carrieri for the lone goal of the contest in the 33rd minute.
Senior goalkeeper Maggie Berlin (Charleston, S.C.) started in goal and played 33 minutes for the Cougars (0-8-1, 0-3-1 CAA). She made three saves, prior to being replaced by junior keeper Lindsay Stravolo in the first half.
CofC was limited in its attack with three shot attempts and just two corner kick opportunities.
Prior to the game, seniors Meredith Holton (Irmo, S.C.), Leah Deutsch (Ashburn, Va.), Haley Mannetta (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), Emma Kerns (Ashburn, Va.), Maddie Cybulski (Vienna, Va.), Naya Boualany (Rittman, Ohio) and Berlin were honored on the field.
"Well, it was a beautiful night at Patriots Point to honor our seven amazing seniors," CofC Head Coach Christian Michner said. "I'm proud of what they've been able to accomplish and the impact each of them has made on this program. Unfortunately, we're snake bit in front of goal and just aren't finishing opportunities. Credit to Elon who came in here and battled all night to win and did that.
"We just were not good enough on the evening. Hopefully the group returning next fall, will have learned some lessons this spring that will bring success next season. Tomorrow is a new day. We will begin to look forward to the fall season and what's to come."
