CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays its first of three Colonial Athletic Association series at Patriots Point and continues a 12-game homestand when Elon comes to town this weekend.
The Cougars and Phoenix play a doubleheader Saturday at noon and a single game Sunday at noon. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youths 18 and under. All three games will be streamed on Flosports and live stats will be available on cofcstats.com.
CofC is coming off a pair of wins over South Carolina State, highlighted by a 12-strikeout performance by Carli McCants in the first game and four hits and six RBI by freshman Shealyn Starks. McCants struck out the side three times in establishing a new career high and lowering her ERA to a team-best 3.33.
Starks ended the nightcap with a bases loaded triple that increased her season RBI total to 12, just two shy team-leader Payton Wade. Starks is also batting .297, second behind only Jenna Helberg's .375.
Kayla Gutierrez had three hits in the second game against the Bulldogs and swiped her sixth base in as many attempts.
Elon took two of three against UNCW last weekend after earning a win over James Madison in its first CAA series.
Rebecca Murray is tied for the conference lead with 28 hits, including six doubles, and is batting .378. Gabi Schaal leads Elon with six homers and 16 RBI while batting .344. The Phoenix have hit 22 home runs as a team.
Kenna Quinn leads the CAA with 16 appearances and 69 innings pitched. She is 6-8 with a 3.45 ERA.
The former SoCon rivals have played 55 times with the Cougars holding a 32-23 lead, including 18-10 at home. The Phoenix took two of three at Patriots Point in the last meeting two years ago.
