CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team will attempt to carry the momentum it built in Thursday's shutout win at Appalachian State into a challenging matchup at Clemson.
The Cougars defeated Appalachian State 2-0 on Thursday behind goals from juniors
Olivia Freitas and
Grace Powell. It was the first win for CofC since October 2019 and the first road victory for the program since September 2019.
Clemson is off to a 2-2 start after winning its first two contests by a combined tally of 12-0, then falling to SEC opponents in Texas A&M and Georgia. The Tigers posted a 12-5-2 record last season, losing to eventual national champion Santa Clara in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Cougars' Aggressive Approach Breaks Through
• CofC was near the top of the CAA in shots attempted entering last Thursday's game, but with little to show for it until scoring two goals at Appalachian State
• It was the first time the Cougars had scored twice in a match since a 2-0 win at Charleston Southern in September 2019

Delaney Dawes is the only CofC player to record both a goal and an assist so far this season

About the Tigers
• Clemson downed St. Francis (PA) 8-0 in its season opener and followed it up by coasting to a 4-0 win over Loyola (MD)
• The Tigers were less successful on the road at Texas A&M and Georgia, losing both games by a score of 3-1, respectively
• Last season, Clemson finished fourth in a loaded ACC and made an impressive postseason run
Series History
• The two programs have met six times, with Clemson coming out victorious in all six matchups
• Last season, the Tigers and Cougars met at Patriots Point twice and Clemson won both matches by scores of 4-1
