CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team hosts No. 17 Wake Forest Thursday, Sept. 4 at Patriots Point with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
Over the weekend, the Cougars traveled to Texas to compete against Houston Christian and Texas. Charleston defeated Houston Christian 3-0 and lost to Texas 3-1.
Faith Slimmer found her 15th career goal and
Maggie Heffernan found her first career goal against the Huskies. Charleston's record now stands at 1-2-1 on the season.
The Cougars offense outshot the Longhorns with CofC taking 19 shots compared to Texas's 15 on Sunday. Charleston had eight corner opportunities while Texas had just five.
Emma Wennar scored the Cougar's lone goal marking the second goal of her senior season.
Wennar leads the Cougars with two goals this season, followed by Slimmer and Heffernan with one each. Wennar has taken the most shots this season with 15 shots total. Leading shots on goal is
Caroline Fowlkes with five.
Lilli Ray,
Casey Malone, and
Bubbles Dever each have one assist so far leading the team.
Wake Forest sits at 4-1 on the 2025 campaign. The Deacons have fallen only to Mississippi State on the road losing 2-1. Most recently, Wake Forest has hosted USF, winning 1-0. The Deacons advanced to the National Championship last season, falling 1-0 to UNC for the title.
Thursday will mark the Cougars fourth time meeting the Deacons. Most recently Charleston traveled to Winston Salem in 2018 where they were defeated by Wake Forest 3-2 in double overtime. In the last meeting Alyssa Beck '20 scored the third latest goal to tie a game by a Cougar in the 87th minute. CofC is 0-3 against Wake Forest.
