Charleston Takes On Charlotte to Wrap Up Road Trip

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team is looking to get back on track as they complete a stretch of four consecutive road matches with a visit to Charlotte on Thursday night. The game is slated to start at 6 PM and will be streamed on CUSAtv.

The Cougars picked up their first win of this season on September 2nd, a 2-0 shutout of Appalachian State in Boone. In its last game, CofC fell on the road at #15 Clemson. 

Charlotte is 3-2 on the young season, with each of its three wins coming at home. The 49ers and Charleston have shared two common opponents to this point in the season, as Charlotte defeated Kennesaw State, 1-0, and fell at South Carolina, 4-1.

Cougars on the Attack
•    The College of Charleston ranks third in the CAA in shots attempted with 88
•    Four CofC players (Olivia Freitas,  Delaney Dawes, Grace Powell, Mary Alexander) rank inside the top ten in the conference in shots attempted
•    Freitas ranks just inside the top 100 nationally in shots attempted per game (3.33)
•    Freshman Mary Alexander has attempted a team high five shots in her last two matches

Going the Distance
•   Charleston has four players that have surpassed 500 minutes played, led by sophomore Bunny Nazari and her 534 minutes
•   Senior goalkeeper Meredith Holton and junior defender Lauren Sandidge entered the Clemson game having played every minute of each game
•   Both Sandidge and Holton went to the bench during Sunday's contest, ending their streak of full games played at six

Holton Climbing the Record Books 
•    Senior goalkeeper Meredith Holton ranks 8th all-time at the College in career saves, with 124
•    Holton needs just 11 more saves to pass Melisa Ward (1993-94) for 7th on the list
•    In the 2021 season, Holton has spent 526 minutes in the net and recorded 20 saves, including a shutout at Appalchian State

About the 49ers
•    Charlotte owns a 3-2 record with wins over Kennesaw State, Gardner-Webb, and Wofford
•    All three of the 49ers wins have been shutouts
•    Piper Biziorek, a sophomore midfielder, leads the squad with three goals
•    Biziorek scored twice in Charlotte's win over Gardner-Webb

Series History
•    The two programs have met on the pitch four times with the last meeting coming in 2013
•    The 49ers are 4-0 in the previous meetings
•    Thursday's match will be just the second time the two teams have met in Charlotte
