CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team hosts Presbyterian Sunday, September 14 with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday's match is Senior Day for the Cougars and celebrations will take place starting at 12:30 p.m.
The Cougars last faced Gardner-Webb on Thursday at home, defeating the Runnin' Bulldogs 5-0. Five different Cougars scored goals. Faith Slimmer scored the first goal to tally her 17th career goal placing her 10th for all-time goals scored by a Cougar. Emma Wennar scored her third goal of the season to extend Charleston's lead, and Avery Nassetta found the final goal of the first half to solidify the lead going into the locker room.
In the second half, Millie Cluxton and Bella Antonio each had goals to secure the Charleston victory. Charleston took 23 shots Thursday evening compared to Gardner-Webb's eight.
Sunday, Charleston will recognize seniors Lilli Ray, Bubbles Dever, Hope Slimmer, Emma Wennar and Avery Nassetta, and graduate students Maggie Wadsworth and Faith Slimmer.
Wennar leads Charleston this season in shots taken with 25 and goals scored with three. She has one assist this season and 10 shots on goal. Wennar found two goals on the road against High Point and Texas and one at home over Gardner-Webb.
Redshirt-senior Slimmer has three goals on the season and five shots on goal. Slimmer scored her first goal this season against Houston Christian to help the Cougars defeat the Huskies 3-0. Her second goal came against North Florida at home to secure the victory over the Ospreys. Entering the season, Slimmer was named to the Preseason All-CAA team along with Wennar.
Nassetta has scored two goals this season and started in all seven games. She has taken 10 shots as a senior and found her first goal against North Florida on Sunday, September 7 in the third minute of play. Nassetta was named to the Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mentions list in August.
Bubbles Dever has played in six games and started in five as a senior. She found her first assist of the season against Houston Christian. Dever has taken seven shots on goal as a senior and was named to the Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mentions list in August.
Charleston native, Lilli Ray has started in all seven games this season. Ray assisted fellow senior Wennar in her goal against SEC foe, Texas. Thursday evening, Ray assisted Cluxton for the fourth goal over Gardner-Webb.
Hope Slimmer started her career at Charleston strong, appearing in 12 games as a freshman and scoring one goal. As a redshirt-sophomore, Slimmer saw action in 12 games with one start. As a redshirt-junior, she has seen action in all seven games and recorded one shot.
Wadsworth comes to Charleston from Mississippi State as a graduate student. Wadsworth has played in four games for the Cougars totaling 130 minutes. She took seven shots with two on goal. Her shots on goal came against tough SEC and ACC opponents Texas and Wake Forest.
Presbyterian women's soccer has a 3-3-1 overall record with a 1-1 record on the road. Most recently Presbyterian fell to Navy 5-0 on the road Sunday, September 7. Charleston is 5-0 against Presbyterian winning three home matches and two away. The Cougars have allowed four goals by Presbyterian. Charleston has scored 15 on Presbyterian's goal. The most recent matchup between the two was in August of 2024 and the Cougars won 1-0. The largest margin of victory the Cougars have won by is five in 2010 with the final score being 6-1.
