Five Cougars Earn Spots on CSC Academic All-District Soccer Team

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Five College of Charleston soccer players have earned spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, putting them on the ballot for Academic All-America honors.
Seniors Olivia Freitas, Grace Powell and Jenna Snead and junior Bunny Nazari were recognized from the women's team while senior Conner Walmsley represents the men's team. The Academic All-America squads will be announced in December.
Freitas owns a 3.61 GPA as a business administration major with a concentration in entrepreneurship. She has been on the President's List (3.8+ GPA) and Dean's List (3.6+ GPA) twice each. On the field, Freitas played in 61 games with 55 starts and had career totals of eight goals and nine assists for 25 points. She tied for second on the team this fall with four goals and had a team-high four assists a year ago.
Powell is an exercise science major with a 3.55 GPA. She serves as Co-President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of Cougar Launch, a mentor and leadership program for female student-athletes. Powell was named to the All-CAA first team this year after scoring a team-high eight goals, and she scored 14 career goals in 63 games including 61 starts. She was also named to the all-conference third team in 2021.
Snead has a 3.82 GPA as an astrophysics major. She has conducted physics research on the development of a cervical cancer imaging device for low-income populations and received "Best of the Best" poster presentation for that work. She also serves as Campus Captain for the CofC chapter of The Hidden Opponent, an organization dedicated to the mental health of student-athletes. Snead played in 34 games with 31 starts in two seasons as a Cougar after transferring from Rice.
Nazari has a 3.92 GPA as a psychology major and has earned distinction on the President's List in three of her four semesters and Dean's List the other. A member of the Honors College, she works for the Center for Student Learning as a tutor for social science research and statistics courses. Nazari is an anchor for a Cougar defense that allowed only 23 goals in 18 games this season and has played in 41 games with 40 starts in her career.
Walmsley is an exercise science major with a 3.79 GPA and has been on the President's List three times and Dean's List twice. He works with Kids On Point, an organization that teaches life-readiness skills to children in under-resourced neighborhoods. He helps with the Sweet Feet Program, teaching technical development to U5-U8 players. Walmsley has played in 43 games with 25 starts as a defensive midfielder and has four career assists.
