RICHMOND, VA. – College of Charleston forward
Chris Elliott capped an outstanding debut season by earning CAA Rookie of the Year and first team all-conference honors in voting by the league's head coaches.
Two more Cougar freshmen earned postseason accolades. Midfielder
Leonardo D'Ambrosio was named to the All-CAA second team and was joined by
Iker Carew on the all-rookie squad.
Elliott is the first Charleston player to earn top rookie honors since Andy Craven was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2010 and the first Cougar on the All-CAA first team since Leland Archer and Eli Dent in 2017.
Elliott led the Cougars and is tied for third in the conference with eight goals fifth with 17 points. His goal total is also tied for third nationally among freshmen. He was the CAA Offensive Player of the Week and a member of the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after scoring two goals each in a 3-0 win over UNC Asheville and a 2-2 draw with William & Mary.
D'Ambrosio paced the Cougars with five assists to tie for seventh in the CAA and added four goals. He was the conference's offensive player of the week when he scored a goal and assisted on two others in a win over Monmouth and also had a pair of assists in a draw with William & Mary.
Carew led Charleston with 35 shots and 17 on target and scored three goals. All of his goals were game winners against Monmouth, UNC Asheville and Northeastern, and he is tied for second in the CAA in that department.
