Scoreless Goalkeeping Earns Barron CAA Defensive Player of the Week Award

RICHMOND, VA. – College of Charleston continued its run of conference honors with the selection of goalkeeper Savannah Barron as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Barron joins Faith Slimmer and Grace Powell, who were selected Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season. A sophomore from Bradenton, Fla., Barron turned in 135 scoreless minutes to help the Cougars defeat Charleston Southern and Appalachian State last week.
She went the full 90 and made three saves in a 2-0 win over the Buccaneers on Wednesday and played the final 45 with a pair of saves in a 2-1 victory over the Mountaineers on Sunday. She was instrumental in helping the Charleston defense post a streak of 329:47 consecutive minutes.
Barron ranks fourth in the CAA with an 0.75 GAA and owns an .800 save percentage. In addition to her solo shutout against CSU, Barron has also combined on three clean sheets with Katie Carrino.
The Cougars play at Furman on Friday in their final non-conference game of the season and return home on September 22 to start CAA play against Drexel.
