CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston's defense was dominant as the Cougars defeated Towson in three sets (25-19, 25-23 and 25-16) Friday evening in TD Arena.

Tynley Smeltzer led the defensive attack for The College, posting a game-best 20 digs.
Hannah Scott (12) and
Emma Appleman (10) also registered double-digit digs for CofC.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-5 overall and 6-1 in the CAA while the Tigers suffer their third loss of the season, moving to 14-3 and 5-2 in league action.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
- A Towson service error in the third set gave Charleston a 15-14 advantage, sparking an 11-2 run for the Cougars to close out the match-winning frame.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST TOWSON:
- Charleston trailed by no more than two points throughout the three sets.
- The Cougars hit .217 as a squad compared to Towson's .048.
- CofC had more kills, blocks, assists and digs than the Tigers.
- Anna Smith and Emily Dykes had eight kills while Emily Banitt tallied 10 in the victory.
- Hannah Scott recorded 31 assists along with 12 digs for her third straight match with a double-double.
- Allie Holland was part of five of Charleston's nine blocks.

OF NOTE:
- Charleston improves to 13-8 all-time against Towson and swept the Tigers for the first time since Oct. 14, 2018.
- The Cougars remain undefeated on Friday's, improving to 6-0 this season.
- Scott tallied her seventh double-double in 2024 and third straight match with the feat.
- Towson's .048 attacking percentage was the second lowest for an opponent against CofC this season. The Cougars have held opponents to a .130 hitting percentage-or-lower in 11 of the 19 matches this season.
- Smeltzer recorded her 1,300th career dig on Friday.
