Smeltzer Earns Back-to-Back CAA Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – For the second straight week, College of Charleston libero Tynley Smeltzer was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Smeltzer tallied 5.17 digs/set in the weekend sweep of William & Mary, helping Charleston become the eighth team in the country to reach 17 victories. Smeltzer also added seven assists and three service aces in the winning efforts. In Friday's win, the libero had 11 digs, four assists and a pair of service aces. On Saturday, Smeltzer entered the top 10 in program history in career digs following her 20-dig performance. The Savannah, Ga., native helped lead the defensive attack, holding the Tribe to a .037 hitting pct. and .075 for the weekend.
Smeltzer earned her third weekly honor of the season and seventh of her career.
The Cougars enter the week 49th in the NCAA RPI, as well as second in the country in total blocks (232.5), fifth in opponent hitting pct. (.141), 11th in blocks/set (2.84) and 13th in total digs (1,373). Smeltzer's 353 digs this season leads the CAA and is good for 33rd in the nation.
Charleston heads to North Carolina to take on North Carolina A&T, beginning Friday, Oct. 25. Opening serves for the weekend matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. with both games airing on FloVolleyball.
