Cougars' Hot Hitting Falls Short

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team fell 10-8 to Stony Brook in the final game of the weekend series Sunday afternoon.

The game proved to be a battle of the bats with both teams recording 16 hits each, a season high for the Cougars that every Charleston batter contributed to.

The Seawolves scored three runs in the opening frame, but the Cougars responded with a five hit, four run bottom of the frame to take the lead. Aniz Roman hit an RBI double and Shealyn Starks followed up with an RBI single to lead the hot hitting streak from the Cougars.

Stony Brook tied the game in the top of the second, yet Charleston answered again with a RBI single from Halle Cannon and Roman's second hit and RBI of the day in her 3-4 showing at the plate.

The Seawolves' offense did not let up, adding three more runs in the third and another in the fourth to gain an 8-6 advantage. Mia Dittoe hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to bring the Cougars back within one.

Stony Brook pushed their lead to three with a two-run shot in the top of the sixth. Shealyn Starks hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the frame, but the Cougars were unable to complete the comeback.

Charleston heads to Hampton for a weekend series with the Pirates. First pitch is set for Friday at 1:00 p.m.
