CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team defeated William & Mary 77-72 on Sunday afternoon inside TD Arena.
The must-win victory moves the Cougars into the fourth-place spot in conference play, currently earning them a double-bye in the conference tournament.
Both teams battled through the first half, trading the lead with each play. The second quarter ended with a clutch shot from
Jenna Annecchiarico behind the arc to give the Cougars a one-point lead.
Charleston fell flat in the third quarter, gathering only 14 points compared to their opponent's 21 points. A run of three buckets beyond the paint from the Tribe gave the Cougars a double-digit deficit closing out the third quarter. A pair of shots from
Alexis Andrews gave Charleston a 5-0 run to head into the final 10 minutes of play down six points.
Annecchiarico rolled into the fourth quarter knocking down 13 points and made four consecutive free throws to secure the win for the Cougars. In the final two minutes of play, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run to seal the win and jump back into fourth place.
