
Cougars Open CAA Play at Delaware

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston opens its CAA schedule this weekend with a three-game set at Delaware beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
The series continues with contests Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at noon. This is the first season the CAA has gone to a three-day, single-game format for conference play.
The Cougars (6-11) won two of three last weekend at the Low Country Classic. Freshman Kaytlin Stacey led the way with six RBI in wins over Buffalo and Evansville and raised her season average to .316.
Stacey is one of four Cougars batting over .300. Shealyn Starks is at .339, Halle Cannon is batting .327 with 11 RBI, and Savannah Lockhart sits at .308 with three doubles. Malaka Belser paces Charleston with 12 RBI.
Payton Lemire has earned four wins in the circle and has a 3.08 ERA, just behind McKenna Kelly's team-leading 3.04 mark.
Delaware (10-6), the two-time defending CAA regular season champion, has a team batting average of .306 and is averaging nearly six runs per game. Julz Garber and Sydney Shaffer have .400 averages with Shaffer leading the team with 16 RBI. Gianna Costaro has five home runs and 13 RBI.
Emily Winburn is the reigning CAA Pitcher of the Year and is 6-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 11 appearances this year.
The Cougars hold a 15-8 lead in the all-time series and took two of three last season at Patriots Point.
