
Charleston Softball Clinches Spot in CAA Championship Game

ELON, N.C. – Head coach Maggie Mrowka leads Charleston softball to the first CAA Championship game in program history after defeating Campbell 6-0 Friday, May 8.
Charleston is the only undefeated team left in the tournament going 3-0. The Cougars are now 29-28 on the season overall.
Mackenzie Mathis pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and just two hits in the shutout.

- Through the third inning, Mathis struck out five Camels and held them to just one hit.
- In the top of the fourth, Bronwyn Conroy lead off for Charleston and hit a double down the left field line before advancing to third off Leela Langston's groundout. Campbell threw a strike to Halle Cannon and Conroy capitalized on the throw, stealing home to take the lead for Charleston.
- Charleston had a five-run top of the sixth beginning with a two RBI single from Langston. With two outs and bases loaded, Sierra Paradis doubled on a 1-1 count driving in Miller, Samantha Horn and Audri Bates.
- The Cougars put out three-straight batters in the bottom of the seventh to clinch a spot in the championship game.
- Conroy tallied her 40th stolen base of the season to be just the fourth player in CAA history to eclipse 40 in a single season. She has the most stolen bases in a single season of any freshman in CAA history.
- Scoring two runs against Campbell, Conroy ties for sixth most runs scored in a single season in CAA history and marks fourth in Charleston history. She has scored four runs in the postseason.
- Mathis has struck out 122 batters this season with 11 complete games. She has allowed just four hits in the postseason with 10 strikeouts.
- The last time a five seed made the championship game was Towson in 2023.
- Saturday's game will mark the first appearance in the CAA Championship game in program history.
- Charleston will compete in the Championship game Saturday, May 9 at 12 p.m. at Hunt Softball Stadium.
- The Cougars' opponent is to be determined.
- As the team coming out of the winner's bracket, Charleston's opponent will have to win two games to claim the title while the Cougars just need one victory.
