Cougars Advance in CAA Tournament

ELON, N.C. – Charleston defeated Stony Brook 5-1 in the first game of the CAA Tournament Wednesday, May 6 at Hunt Softball Park.
The Cougars move on to play No. 1 Hofstra Thursday, May 7 at 12 p.m.
Charleston's overall record is now 27-28 with a 15-10 record in the CAA.

CRITICAL POINTS
- In the top of the first inning, Halle Cannon hit a home run on the first pitch with Bronwyn Conroy on second for a two-run lead.
- Stony Brook responded with a home run from their lead-off hitter in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 score. Mackenzie Mathis ended the inning with two strikeouts.
- With two outs in the top of the third, Austy Miller singled to short. Cannon then singled on a 1-0 count and Miller advanced to scoring position. Sam Horn doubled for two RBI and the Cougars took a 4-1 lead.
- With a three-run lead in the top of the seventh, Julia Sitterding doubled for the first at bat of the inning. Sitterding advanced to third on a Leela Langston groundout before scoring when Miller singled for an RBI.
- Ryley Kutter would strikeout the final batter for Stony Brook to leave the final score 5-1.
- The Cougars had seven hits with Cannon leading the Cougars with three. The senior tallies four home runs on the 2026 season and is on a three-game hitting streak.
- Mathis and Kutter combined for six strikeouts and just two hits. Mathis picked up her 14th win of her sophomore season.
- Charleston moves on to play Hofstra Thursday, May 7 at Hunt Softball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
