Cougars Complete Comeback at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team came back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Coastal Carolina 4-2 on Thursday night in their season opener.
 
The Cougars went down 1-0 early in the first half, when the Chanticleers scored in the sixth minute. The remainder of the first half was scoreless as Charleston had seven shots on goal and Coastal Carolina had six.
 
The Chanticleers doubled their lead early in the second half, scoring in the 56th minute. The Cougars were awarded with a penalty shot in the 64th minute of the game, where Chris Elliott found the back of the net to get Charleston on the board and start the scoring frenzy.
 
Charleston outshot their opponent 16-5 in the second half, putting the foot on the gas and never letting up. The Cougars tied the game in the 75th minute with a goal from Noah Gold. Two minutes later, Leonardo D'Ambrosio found the back of the net to give Charleston the comeback lead.
 
Matt Lenert found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to finish off the scoring for the Cougars, sealing their first win of the season.
 
Olly Marshall ended the game with four saves in his season debut to help lead Charleston to victory.
 
The Cougars will return to action on Thursday, August 29 at USC Upstate. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
