ROME, Ga. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team will head to Rome, Ga. for the fourth annual UTR Sports NIT Championship beginning on Tuesday, May 5.
Launched in 2023, the NIT Championship was created by UTR Sports to allow men's and women's teams to gain valuable postseason experience. The 2026 NIT Championship will feature an eight team single elimination tournament with all matches hosted at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. from May 5-7.
"We are excited to receive an invitation to the NIT hosted by UTR," Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "Our team has had a great season and to be rewarded with a postseason bid shows that the hard work has truly paid off. As a coach who is retiring, this a great way to end my career. North Texas presents a great challenge but I know our team will give it their all."
Charleston will be the No. 7 seed and the Cougars will face off against No. 2 North Texas with first serve set for 4:30 p.m. at the Rome Tennis Center on Tuesday, May 5. Seedings are based on the April 29 UTR Sports College Team Rankings. The innovative rankings are powered by a trio of data points: a team's Power 6 (combined UTR Ratings of their top six players); win-loss record; and strength of schedule.
The full eight team field consists of No. 1 Kansas State, No. 2 North Texas, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 North Alabama, No. 5 Army, No. 6 McNeese State, No. 7 Charleston and No. 8 Northern Illinois.
If the Cougars win against North Texas, CofC will take on the winner of No. 1 Kansas State and No. 8 Northern Illinois in the NIT Semifinals on Wednesday, May 6.
Charleston is 16-8 overall and finished the regular season with a 6-2 record in CAA play. The Cougars earned the No. 3 seed in the 2026 CAA Tournament and made the CAA semifinals for the second consecutive season.
