The College of Charleston scored just 1:08 into the game and never looked back as it defeated Charleston Southern, 4-0, in women's soccer action this afternoon at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
The College of Charleston improves to 4-3, while Charleston Southern drops to 1-6 on the season.
Senior Tessa Morrell took a left cross from Claire Wigfall into the top right of the net for the Cougars at the 1:08 mark for the game's first goal. Kristin Rhyne also picked up an assist on the play after helping to guide Wigfall's cross. Wigfall added the insurance goal at the 59:54 mark when she took the shot in from six feet out. The third goal came at 61:46 off Kristin Rhyne, who stole the ball from the CSU defender and beat the keeper for the netter. Carolyn Morris netted the Cougars' fourth goal at 69:44 as she dribbled the ball in from down field, taking the shot from 12 yards out.
The College of Charleston out-shot Charleston Southern 18-5, while the Buccaneers held the edge in corner kicks at 7-6. Claire Wigfall led the Cougars in shots with five, while Charleston Southern's Lisa Cooper had two to lead the Buccaneers.
The Cougars travel next to Davidson Sept. 28th for a 2:00 PM match. Charleston Southern is at Radford 27th. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
