Charleston ends its season with a 7-9-2 mark, while Western Carolina improves to 16-5 and advances to play #1-seed Davidson Friday at 5:00 PM.
Dittmer took a ball from about 23 yards out and volleyed it towards goal. The ball was deflected enough by a College of Charleston defender and just made its way below the crossbar for the game-winning goal at the 97:37 mark of the first overtime. Marie Nicolini was credited with the assist on the goal.
The game was tied 1-1 after regulation, marking the third time that the two teams had met in an overtime game. Western Carolina is now 2-1 in overtime games between the two institutions.
The Cougars' Kristin Rhyne, a 2005 All-SoCon selection, commenced the game's scoring when she placed in a cross from Teryn Schuetz in the 18th minute. The goal was Rhyne's 10th of the season.
The game stayed at a lull at 1-0 in favor of Charleston until the 63rd-minute.
The Catamounts tied the game at the 63:25 mark when midfielder Megan Chambers scored. Chambers found the back of the net on a 30-yard shot that appeared to be going just wide. With the Charleston defense dissipated after a clearance, Chambers took advantage of the situation, sneaking the ball inside the left post.
The Catamounts out-shot the Cougars 20-5, with Charleston coming away with the 5-1 advantage in saves. Rhyne led the Cougars with two shots, while Chambers paced the Catamounts with five shots.
