This is the fifth season the tournament has been held at The Citadel in Charleston, SC.
The College of Charleston men's team earned the #3 seed and will face the winner of the #6 Georgia Southern/#11 Elon match. The Cougars will play April 22, at 12:30 PM at the Farmfield Courts. The women's team come in as the #3 seed as well and will play the winner of the #6 Georgia Southern/#11 Western Carolina winner April 22nd at 2:00 PM at the Earle Tennis Center at The Citadel.
The Cougar men (12-7 overall, 7-3 SoCon) finished the regular season third in the standings behind East Tennessee State and Furman. Charleston is led by Timo Siebert at number one and Bastian Moldhenke at number two singles. Last year's team advanced to the finals, falling to East Tennessee State in a close 4-2 decision that came down to three third sets.
The Cougar Women (17-5, 8-2) are led by Rachel Magory, with a 15-3 mark at number one singles, and Gabriela Moreira, who owns a 15-2 record at number two. Charleston, which fell in the tournament finals last season to Furman 4-2, enter as the #3 seed despite finishing the regular season tied for second in the standings with the ETSU Bucs and Davidson Wildcats. Due to new tiebreaking procedures that take into account team scoring, Davidson won #2 seed with a 9-5 record, while the Cougars held a 7-7 mark for #3. ETSU is 5-9 and the #4 seed.
The Cougars are making a bid for a return trip to the NCAA tournament this season. Both teams won the SoCon Tournament in 2003, advancing to the NCAA first round after the women defeated Davidson, 4-1, in the finals and the men disposed of ETSU, 4-1. The women's team fell to North Carolina, 4-0, in the NCAA opening round, while the men dropped to Ole Miss, 4-1 as well.
