CofC Tennis Players Honored by SoCon

College of Charleston men's tennis player Or Dekel was honored by the Southern Conference this afternoon as Player-of-the-Year, while women's tennis player Chelsea Albertz was named First-Team All-Conference. The awards, as voted on by the league coaches, were presented in a banquet at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
Dekel, a junior from Haifa, Israel, finished the regular season 14-3 overall and 7-1 in league play. Dekel has only lost seven matches in his three-year career and stands at 39-7 all-time. Aside from Player-of-the-Year honors, Dekel was named First-Team All-Conference as well.
Dekel and teammate Junior Marcus DiGliodo, from Cordoba, Argentina, were named to the First-Team All-Conference for their accomplishments at doubles. They were 14-3 this season overall and 7-1 in league play.
Albertz, from Tequesta, Fla., went undefeated in Southern Conference play this year at 9-0. Her overall mark is 15-7 after the 2006 regular season. Albertz is 28-19 in her two years as a Cougar.
At doubles this season Albertz, along with teammate Payten Ellington, from Alpharetta, Ga., were named to the Second-Team All-Conference squad at the number one spot. Ellington and Albertz are 9-13 overall and 5-4 in the SoCon heading into tournament play.
The Cougar men's team, 16-5 overall and 7-2 in the league, enters the SoCon Tournament as the #3 seed and take on #6 The Citadel Friday, April 21st, at 2:00 at the Earle Tennis Center on The Citadel Campus.
The women's team is 12-11 overall and 7-2 in the league. The Cougars are seeded third in the SoCon Tournament and face #6 UNC Greensboro Friday, April 21st at 12:30 PM. This match will be played at the City of Charleston Farmfield Courts in West Ashley.
