
Cougars Edged by Mocs, 64-60

Jade Hughes scored 20 points, while Jill Furstenburg added 12 as the College of Charleston women's basketball team fought back from a 10-point second-half deficit only to fall just short to the Chattanooga Mocs, 64-60 in front of 1,732 fans at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. 
The Cougars drop to 10-17 overall and 5-11 in the Southern Conference. Chattanooga improves to 20-7 and 13-3 in the league.
Chattanooga led 57-47 with 6:39 to go in the game before Charleston used a 9-0 run to pull to within one, 57-56, with 2:34 left. However, the Mocs connected on seven of eight free throws down the stretch to hang on to the four-point 64-60 win.
Charleston held Chattanooga to just 20.7 percent from the field in the second half, but a 30.0 percentage by the Cougars kept them from taking advantage.
Both teams shot well in the first half with Chattanooga shooting 48.4 percent from the field and the Cougars shooting 41.9. The Mocs led by as many as eight in the first half and led 40-34 at intermission.
Ales Anderson led the Mocs with 20 points and nine rebounds. Laura Hall followed with 14 points. Sarah Moye pulled down 14 rebounds for the Cougars, just one from her career-high.
For the game the Mocs shot 35.0 percent from the field and the Cougars shot 36.1. Chattanooga held the 42-41 advantage in rebounds and had two less turnovers, 13-11. Charleston went six-for-15 from beyond the three-point arc, while Chattanooga was seven for 14. The Cougars continued to show improvement from the charity stripe, going 10-for-12. Chattanooga was 15-for-20.
Charleston hosts Western Carolina Monday, Feb.19th at 7:00 p.m. at the John Kresse Arena.
