
CofC Men?s Soccer Falls to Jacksonville, 5-3

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The 26th ranked College of Charleston men's soccer team lost to Jacksonville 5-3 on Sunday afternoon in the final match of the 2009 JU/NIKE Invitational.
With the loss, the Cougars fell to 6-3-0, while Jacksonville improved to 2-4-1 with the win. Charleston returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 30th when they travel to Davidson for their Southern Conference season opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
In the first half, the Cougars were dominant offensively, outshooting the Dolphins 10-4 in the period. Jacksonville got on the board first 46 seconds into the match as Jonathan Jackson scored. Charleston got into the scoring column in the fifth minute, as John Bello scored his third goal of the season off a Ralph Lundy, III assist.
Tyler Williams made the score 2-1 in Jacksonville's favor in the 20th minute with a goal, but Charleston was quick to counter, as Tyler Vukoder scored in the 32nd minute. Lundy, III recorded an assist on the play. Three minutes later, the Cougars took their first lead of the match when Francis Twohig scored, as Charleston took the 3-2 lead into the half.
In the second half, Jacksonville tied the game up at three in the 49 minute as Stefan Runeman scored on a penalty kick. The score remained tied at three into the 80th minute, however, Runeman broke the tie with a goal in the 84th minute. In the 86th minute, Jackson added an insurance goal, which was his second of the day.
Overall, Jacksonville outshot the Cougars 19-13 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
