
Cougars Open SoCon Slate at Furman

The College of Charleston women's basketball team, fresh off a close 10-point loss to Kansas State this past Saturday, opens Southern Conference play Monday, Nov. 29, with a match-up at Furman in Greenville, S.C. Charleston, which owns a 7-5 mark in SoCon openers, tips off with the Paladins at 7 p.m. at Timmons Arena.
The Cougars (2-4) and Paladins (2-2) have met 35 times with Furman holding the 22-13 advantage. The games have fallen Charleston's way as of late as the Cougars have won the last four in a row, including a 67-52 decision in the last meeting (1/30/10) ...
Charleston is coming off a 46-56 loss to Big 12 Kansas State. The Wildcats outscored the Cougars 13-5 in the final nine-and-a-half minutes to break open a close game and take the win. Alyssa Frye (Chester, Va.) led the effort with a career-high nine points, while Deidre Ramer (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Cougars in rebounds with seven
Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) leads the Cougars this season with 11.2 points per game, while Ramer has 40 boards in just six games and is averaging a team-leading 6.7 rebounds. Charleston is averaging 46.8 points and 37.2 rebounds per game.
Furman earned a 73-60 victory over Presbyterian in its last game. Leading the Paladins is Kelly O'Connor with 12.3 and Kaitlin Murphy with 12.0 points a game. Lakyn Ledford's 7.3 rebounds paces the team as well. Furman is averaging 56.2 points and 35.5 rebounds per game.
