CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Four College of Charleston's men's tennis players took to the courts over the weekend at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Carolina Regional Championships hosted by the University of North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Stadium.
Seniors Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) and Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) paced the Cougars as they both advanced to the round of 64 in singles play. Trintignac defeated Joe Schafer of Davidson, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, in Friday's round of 128, but later fell to UNC's Oyestein Steiro, 6-3, 6-3, in Saturday's round of 64.
Delme advanced to the singles round of 64 after a victory over Campbell's Adrien Rossignon, 6-3, 6-2. He battled No. 38-ranked and second-seeded Brennan Boyajian of host UNC in Saturday's round of 64, falling in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
"Mickael Trintignac and Tom Delme both had strong wins in their first rounds and competed well against opponents from UNC in the next round," CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "Tom had a super match with the No. 2 seed and 38th-ranked player in the nation winning the first set and having chances in the second and third sets. He has been working hard and was able to see the level he can compete with.
"Overall, this tournament was a good experience for our new players (sophomore transfers Brice Allanic and Crescente Lesser). We learned some things we need to keep working on for the rest of the fall and fortunately, we have the second half of our fall schedule still to go."
The Cougars will return to action as they play host to the College of Charleston Invitational to be held on Oct. 21-23 at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
