CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston men's tennis looks to extend its perfect record against Southern Conference opponents to 13 matches when it hosts Wofford on Saturday morning at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (8-4, 2-0 SoCon) are riding a 7-0 win over Furman on Thursday, making them the first conference opponent to ever sweep the Paladins in Greenville. Head coach Jay Bruner and his team first made history last season when CofC became the first SoCon team to ever record a victory on Furman's home court as the Cougars escaped with a 4-3 decision.
“I am proud of the way the team prepared and competed yesterday,” Bruner said. “There were close matches across the board and the result was the product of a great team effort to complete the match. Saturday's match will be another challenge. Wofford has been improving all season and will be ready to play tomorrow.”
Wofford sits at 6-7 on the season with a 2-1 conference mark. They earned a 4-3 win over Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. on Mar. 19. Sophomore Drew Superstein clinched the match for the Terriers with a win at No. 5 singles. He and Alan Donald who leads the team with an 8-5 record played mostly at the No.4 spot, will be the biggest threats in singles competition.
In doubles, Stuart Robertson and Tinus Van Wyk have paired up as the Terriers' top seed, boasting a 6-4 record that includes a three-match win streak. The duo will face CofC's top tandem, senior Lukas Koncilia (Tyrol, Austria) and sophomore Kyle Parker (Richmond, Va.) who also have a 6-4 record and have won their last two matches.
First serve for Saturday's match is at 11 a.m. at Patriots Point.
