MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston (6-4) sand volleyball lost to No. 4 Florida State (13-1) by a score of 5-0 in the final day of action from the CofC Sand Classic at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Facility in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The powerhouse Seminoles finished the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record while CofC's only win came against South Carolina on Saturday.
In the fifth flight, Kari Fidelholtz and Catey Warren performed well, taking the first set 21-19. FSU's Hailey Luke and Sierra Sanchez responded to win set two, 21-18. Both teams fought hard, but it was Florida State who won the third set, 15-13, to take the flight. Warren finished with 15 kills and four blocks, and Fidelholtz had 15 digs.
Andi Zbojniewicz and Sloane White, a pair that won twice yesterday against South Carolina and Georgia State, fought hard in the third flight against FSU. They lost the first set by a 21-19 margin before falling in set two, 21-10. Zbojniewicz finished with 15 kills and seven digs, while White had eight kills.
Darcy Dorton/Emily Neideffer played in the second flight against the Pelliterri sisters, falling 21-14 and 21-7. Melissa Morello and Cara Howley moved to the first flight, but lost to Jace Pardon/Aurora Davis in straight sets (21-9, 21-13).
Kallie McKown and Grace Rebarchak played a close second set, but ultimately lost to Julie Brown/Melanie Pavels in the fourth flight by scores of 21-12, 21-19.
CofC travels to the Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament next weekend in Siesta Key, Fla.
