Jake Kusmider Wins Three Matches at Georgia Southern Championship

STATESBORO, GA. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team performed admirably over the weekend at the Georgia Southern Invitational, where freshman Jake Kusmider distinguished himself with three wins to be among the final eight in the tournament.

Kusmider tallied a pair of two-set wins over Georgia Southern's Adam Brown (6-3, 6-2) and the No. 4 seed in the tournament Sahil Desmukh of North Florida (6-3, 6-4). From there, Kusmider met up with Artemie Amari of Georgia Southern in an instant classic. The two players traded 7-5 wins before the CofC freshman finally put his opponent away with a 6-3 win in the third set.

It wasn't until he met Kennesaw State's David Durham that he finally fell 6-1, 6-4. Durham was a bane for more than just Kusmider, knocking off the No. 5 seeded Benedikt Henning in the previous match 6-4, 6-3. Henning managed a win over the weekend against SC State's Martin Figura 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

The one other notable performer over the weekend was Ryan Khan, who knocked off SC State's Stanislav Baco 6-3, 6-4 to set up a matchup with Georgia Southern's Diego Finkelstein. Khan got the early momentum by winning the first set 6-3, but Finkelstein edged out the second set tiebreaker 7-6(6) before emerging victorious 6-4 in the third set.

The group returns to Charleston with one home tournament remaining on the calendar, the CofC Classic, which is slated for Veteran's Day Weekend.
