Cougars Aim to Halt Hokies Tuesday Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the second game in a row, the College of Charleston women's basketball team (1-2) will go head to head with an ACC opponent this Tuesday when the Cougars host the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-0) at 6:30 p.m. in TD Arena.
The College will look to bounce back from a tough road loss to N.C. State suffered over the weekend. In defeat, Breanna Bolden put up game-highs in both rebounding and points as the senior guard continued her impressive campaign with a 17-12 double-double. The effort moved her to No. 19 on the CofC All-Time scoring list, surpassing Sister Green's (19-75-77) mark of 1180 Pts. Not only that, Bolden currently ranks first in the country in steals per game with 5.33 SPG through her first three contests.
The Cougars and Hokies have only met one time previously, last season at Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies got out to an early lead that they extended to the end of the game, ultimately prevailing 81-47. Kelsey Booth came close to a double-double in that one, but it wasn't enough to counteract Vanessa Panousis' five threes and Chanette Hicks' 14-3-4 night. Both players will make their returns to the Hokie lineup this time around.
The Hokies' first-year head coach is somebody who the Cougars are well-acquainted with. Kenny Brooks spent the last 14 seasons with CAA-rival James Madison, leading the Dukes to six NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure. The Cougars nearly managed to shock Brooks and the Dukes in last year's CAA Tournament quarterfinal in a 8 vs. 1 matchup, but JMU was able to pull ahead in the final minute to escape with the 53-50 win.
Hicks leads Virginia Tech in many phases of the game, averaging 16.8 points per contest while logging a team-high 16 assists and 14 steals as well. In the front court, Sidney Cook and Regan Magarity do the lion's share of the work, averaging a combined 14.1 rebounds and 23.8 points per game.
