CHARLESTON, S.C. – After a lengthy break since their last contest over a week ago, the College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-5) will head to the Bluegrass State for a pair of road contests against No. 8/8 Louisville (9-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Western Kentucky (5-4) on Sunday at 3 p.m. EST.
The College will look to snap a string of two losses, having fallen to North Florida at home at the end of November and Houston on the road on December 4.
Despite the unfavorable results, the Cougars have been getting some great individual performances through the start of the season. Senior guard Breanna Bolden has led the Cougars with 15.6 points per game, and has added 7.6 rebounds per contest as well. Most notably however, at 4.0 steals per game, Bolden ranks sixth in the nation in that category.
Not to be outdone, redshirt junior forward Tanisha Brown has been a consistency queen through her first seven games with the College. Brown has tallied five double-double already this year, which ranks 17th in the country, and in her previous contest, sunk a career-best 21 points against Houston. Not only that, Brown ranks among the Top 50 in the NCAA in both rebounds per game (9.4) as well as field goal percentage (55.4%).
The Cougars met both the Cardinals and the Hilltoppers for the first time in program history last year, with both games taking place in TD Arena. CofC met a 78-44 defeat at the hands of WKU before rallying two days later to play a great contest against Louisville, leading by as many as 14 before eventually falling by a mere four points. Bolden, Jackie Luna-Castro and Kelsey Booth all dropped double-digit points that day, while Nola Henry dished out a career-best nine assists.
Louisville comes off a 26-8 NCAA Tournament caliber season in 2015-16, and has been on a complete tear this year as well. Through 11 games, their only two losses come against Top 5 ranked opponents in USC and Maryland, and they currently ride a three-game win-streak. Their most recent game was a 83-30 thumping of South Dakota State.
Western Kentucky meanwhile has compiled a respectable 5-4 record through nine games, though it would appear a degree of regression has taken place following a stellar 27-7 year last season. Their wins have come against the likes of Alabama A&M, Indiana, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay. Their most recent game came against aforementioned Louisville, a thriller that resulted in a seven-point UofL win.
In addition to the links provided above, the Louisville game will also be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
After their swing through Kentucky, the Cougars will return to the Lowcountry for their final non-conference home-game, a 4 p.m. showdown with Coastal Carolina on Tuesday.
