CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team will look to kick off its three-game road trip with a win this Sunday, as the Cougars (5-10, 2-2) travel to Towson to tangle with the Tigers (8-7, 1-3) at 2 p.m.
Reigning CAA Player of the Week Breanna Bolden registered a three-steal performance in her fourth consecutive game to go along with 14 points and seven rebounds Friday, but it wasn't enough to overcome the visiting Elon Phoenix, who pulled off the 84-56 win. Dajah Logan matched Bolden in scoring with 14 of her own, adding a pair of blocks, while freshman Deja Ford established new career-highs in scoring (12) and assists (three).
At 2-2 against the CAA, the Cougars find themselves in the middle of the pack in a tie for fifth place in conference. Towson meanwhile is tied for eighth place at 1-3 thus far, although one of their wins was an impressive 54-51 win over James Madison last weekend.
The Cougars and Tigers will play one another for the ninth time on record Sunday. Towson controls the series with a 6-2 record, yet the two teams split their meetings last season, with the home team winning both times. The last time the Cougars went to SECU Arena, Bolden registered a 9-8-4 night with five steals, but the College ultimately fell 62-51.
Towson went 7-24 overall and 3-15 in conference matchups last season, earning them a No. 10 seed in the CAA Tournament. The Tigers made the most of their post-season by handing No. 7 William & Mary an upset in the opening round, but were dispatched the following day by No. 2 seeded Drexel.
Bolden, the No. 10 ranked player in the country in steals per game (3.47) this season, will have the rare opportunity of facing an opponent of a similar caliber when she faces off against Raven Bankston. Bankston is second in the conference with 3.3 steals per game, and averages 17 points and five rebounds per contest as well. Her twin sister Raine is a force in her own right, ranking among the Top 5 in the conference in both steals and assists. Sophomore Sianni Martin completes the back court trifecta for the Tigers, averaging more than 15 points per game.
