The College to Host Hofstra for Education Day
1/26/2017 11:36:00 AM | Women's Basketball
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-13, 2-5) will host its annual Education Day this Friday in TD Arena, and will face off against the Hofstra Pride (8-9, 1-5) at 11:30 a.m.
The Cougars will look to bounce back from a rough road-trip during which the Cougars went 0-3 away from the Lowcountry. Most recently, the Cougars squared off with Delaware in a game that was an exciting back-and-forth affair. Tanisha Brown recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while recording a career-best eight steals. Breanna Bolden meanwhile contributed a typically excellent stat-line by her standards with 23 points, nine rebounds and three steals. It wasn't enough for the win however, as the College fell 71-66.
Bolden and Brown have been the team's leading scorers this season with 17.6 PPG and 12.2 PPG respectively. In addition, both players are on the national radar in their own ways. Tanisha Brown's eight double-doubles rank her among the Top 40 in the country in that category. Bolden meanwhile ranks tenth in steals per game (3.39), 13th in total steals (61), and cracks the Top 50 in field goal attempts (287).
The Cougars and Pride will play for the seventh time on record in a series that dates back to 2014. The College won their first two meetings with Hofstra, but have dropped their last four straight contests over the past two years. The last time the two teams met was during Hofstra's Senior Day festivities last season in Hempstead, N.Y. Bolden recorded a 15-8 with five steals that day, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Pride getting double-digit scoring from all five starters en route to a 66-54 finish.
The Pride captured the No. 3 seed in last year's conference tournament, but have struggled through the opening third of CAA play this season and enter Friday on a three-game skid. The Pride are led by do-it-all forward Ashunae Durant, who ranks first in the CAA in rebounding (11.5 RPG) and is first on the team in scoring (15.1 PPG) and blocks (24). Krystal Luciano is the other player to watch for the Pride, leading the conference in assists (6.0 APG) while leading her team in steals with 30 and cracking double-digit scoring with 11.1 PPG.
