CHARLESTON, S.C. - Coming off a convincing home win on Friday, the College of Charleston women's basketball team (6-13, 3-5) now sets its site to carrying that success with them on the road to Sunday's 2 p.m. contest with UNCW (7-12, 2-6) at Trask Coliseum.
Breanna Bolden made history in CofC's 71-55 win over Hofstra by passing Wilma Simpson's (1999-03) 1456 points to become the CofC Division I Era career scoring leader. The senior posted a 21-13-4 with five steals and a block, tallying the seventh double-double of the year and 19th of her collegiate career. Not only that, Bolden ranks eighth in the nation in steals per game (3.47) and has cracked the Top 50 in field goals made with 132.
The Cougars and Seahawks will meet for the 21st time on record and for the second time this season, with CofC controlling the 11-9 edge. The College has managed to be the better team for the past year of and a half, winning all three games last season as well as their previous meeting in TD Arena this year. In their previous meeting, the Cougars more than doubled up the Seahawks by way of a 76-37 win during which both Bolden and Tanisha Brown pulled down double-doubles. It was the first time this season two Cougars have accomplished a double-double in the same game.
UNCW struggled out the gate of CAA play by dropping their first five games, but have since bounced back by winning two of their last three games. They come off a 59-56 thriller against Towson, where Amber Reeves drained a three with 1.5 seconds left to avoid overtime and lift the Seahawks to the win.
Madison Raque is the only Seahawk to average double-digit scoring this season. UNCW has found success in the interior thanks to the efforts of Jordan Henry and Rebekah Banks, who combine to average 16 rebounds and 12.8 points per game. As a team however, the Seahawks rank last in the CAA in scoring, shooting, assists, turnover margin and steals.
