
Cougars in Northeast to Duel with Pride and Huskies

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-14, 5-6) rides the momentum of a two-game winning streak into the frigid northeast this weekend, as they will look to keep things going against Hofstra (9-13, 2-9) on Friday at 7 p.m. and then against Northeastern (7-16, 3-8) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Cougars were a perfect 2-0 last weekend, dispatching Drexel 79-75 before knocking off Towson 59-54. Breanna Bolden accrued her second CAA Player of the Week honor by averaging 19.5 points, seven rebounds, four assists and 3.5 steals while shooting a flawless 14 of 14 from the free throw line. Tanisha Brown had a big game against the Dragons with 19 points, six rebounds and a career-high seven assists, while Brianna Boyd had a great game against Towson with 17 points and a career-best 13 rebounds.
All-time, the Cougars a 3-4 against the Pride and 3-3 against the Huskies. The Cougars met Hofstra previously this year in TD Arena in a game that CofC controlled from start to finish. Bolden had a 21-13-4 with five steals as the Cougars stormed off to the 71-55 win. The College has yet to face Northeastern this season after NU swept both meetings in 2015-16.
Due to the rescheduling of a previous game, the Pride come off a home and home back-to-back series with William & Mary which resulted in the home team winning both games. The win against the Tribe snapped a six-game skid for Hofstra. The Pride is led by Ashunae Durant, who in addition to leading the team in scoring (16.0 PPG) and blocks (33), ranks among the Top 10 in the nation in rebounding at 11.2 RPG. Senior point guard Krystal Luciano is also dangerous, averaging a conference-high 5.7 assists per game to go along with 11 PPG and nearly two steals per game.
Northeastern meanwhile has lost 8 of their last nine, and will play 10-1 Elon before they get a crack at the Cougars. On an individual level, they are led by Francesca Sally, who averages 12.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Jess Genco is No. 1 in the CAA in minutes per game (38.3), and leads the team in assists (3.8 APG) and steals (41). As a team, the Huskies sport the lowest scoring margin (-9.6) and field goal percentage (35.1%).
