Cougars Outlast Bulldogs to Rise to 9-5

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team made it nine in a row against their cross-town rival on Tuesday, defeating The Citadel (10-21) 5-2 to rise to 9-5 on the season.
The Cougars blasted through doubles play with a pair of 6-1 wins, with Benedikt Henning and Alec Angradi doing so on court two and Vasily Kichigin and Franz Sydow going likewise on court three.
Alec Angradi rolled past Ryan Templet in flight six 6-0, 6-1, and Juan Estevarena was close behind on court one with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Michael Anzalone to put CofC up 3-0 early. However, the fourth point proved elusive, evading the Cougars for the next 45 minutes.
The Bulldogs put a point on the board with a win on court five to make things interesting, but Benedikt Henning put the match away with a second flight win over Matthew Henson (6-4, 6-3). That left a pair of three-set slugfests on courts three and four, which the two teams split. The Citadel got the upper hand with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win over Rodrigo Encinas, but Vasily Kichigin wrapped play up with a 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-0 win over Noah Nawabi.
The Cougars return to action Thursday at 4 p.m., when they host the DePaul Blue Demons.
