CHARLESTON, S.C. – CofC women's tennis returns to the Lowcountry for two matches this weekend, as the College of Charleston will host East Carolina (3-5) at 1 p.m. on Friday before facing off with No. 3 North Carolina (14-1) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Cougars were on the road for their last dual match, beating Stetson 5-2 to improve to 5-2 on the season. The College won the doubles point, and then blasted through singles, pushing their lead to 5-0 before the day was complete. CofC is 7-1 all time against the Hatters.

The College has met East Carolina 16 times previously since joining NCAA Division I, and sport a 12-4 record against the Pirates over that span. The last time the two teams played was last season at Patriots Point, where the Cougars battled to a 4-2 win. CofC has only faced the Tar Heels three times since becoming a Division I program, and have fallen in each encounter. The two teams haven't met since 2014, when UNC came to the Lowcountry and defeated the Cougars 7-0.

The Pirates are 3-5 on the season, and have lost their last two encounters to Coastal Carolina and VCU, both by scores of 5-2. Against the Rams, East Carolina won the doubles point by a 2-1 split, but in singles play it was only Michelle Castro in flight five who emerged with a win.

The Tar Heels are currently the third ranked team in the nation, as evidenced by their five nationally ranked singles players. Hayley Carter leads the group as the No. 2 singles player in collegiate tennis. She is joined by No. 4 Sara Daavettila, No. 24 Jessie Aney, No. 33 Alexa Graham and No. 78 Makenna Jones. In addition, Carter and Aney are currently slated as the top doubles tandem in the country. UNC's only loss this year was to Florida, the No. 1 team in the nation.
