CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team (13-7) stumbled in its final regular season matchup, succumbing to the Charlotte 49ers (11-13) 5-2 on the road.
The Cougars threw a curveball in the doubles lineups, reconfiguring the second and third flight pairings. Alec Angradi and Fernando Ramirez Lascurian found success in flight two with a 6-2 victory, but it wasn't enough to secure the point as Charlotte went up 1-0 with wins on courts 1 and 3.
Vasily Kichigin tied the match up at 1-1 when he won in the third flight against Leonardo Menezes by a score of 6-2, 6-3. The 49ers responded however, picking up victories on courts four and five to go up 3-1 and put CofC on the brink.
Reigning CAA Player of the Week Juan Estevarena got the College back on the right track, defeating Sam Rice 6-2, 7-6(5) in flight one. It wasn't enough however, as Benedikt Henning stumbled 6-4, 7-5 in flight two, ending his momentous 11-match unbeaten streak. The day ended when Alec Angradi went out on his shield, going down to Max Benaim only after a three-set war.
The Cougars won't play again until next weekend's CAA Tournament at Elon University. Pairings and seeding will be announced on Monday, Apr 17.
