CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (12-5) heads to the state of Virginia to play two weekend matches against Hampton (4-7) at 2 p.m. on Saturday and then Old Dominion (14-4) at 11 a.m. Sunday.
CofC has ripped off four straight wins heading into their road trip with victories over The Citadel, DePaul, Davidson and East Carolina. They've been led by their top three singles flights, where Juan Estevarena, Benedikt Henning and Vasily Kichigin all currently ride four-match winning streaks. Henning in particular has played like a man possessed, and has accumulated back-to-back CAA Player of the Week honors as his nine-match unbeaten streak continues.
The Cougars and Pirates will face off for the first time since 2014, when CofC rolled to a 7-0 road victory. This season, Hampton is 4-7 overall after losing their last three straight. The Pirates have relied on their ace Juan Araoz this season, who's 10-1 in top flight singles play and 7-4 in top flight doubles. Hampton will match up with Norfolk State on Friday prior to their showdown with the College on Saturday.
The weekend closes out against Old Dominion on Sunday morning. Last year, the Monarchs came to the Lowcountry and handed the College a 6-1 defeat. Rodrigo Encinas was the lone Cougar to score a win, doing so in flight three by a score of 7-6, 6-4. Currently, ODU has won six of their last seven, but they'll host Georgia State on Saturday in advance of their match with CofC. Adam Moundir is ranked No. 37 in singles play, while Javier Jover Maestre currently rides a ten match singles sinning streak, primarily in flight five.
Live stats will be provided for the match against Old Dominion.
