Women’s Soccer Faces Off with Pair of Big South Foes This Weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team (1-3) returns to the Lowcountry for a two-game weekend, and will host the Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading across town to play the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (1-3) at CSU Soccer Field at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
 
The Cougars come off a tough weekend against a pair of strong ACC and SEC schools, falling to Virginia Tech and Tennessee who have are both receiving votes in the NSCAA national polls since beating the College. Prior to that, they split their opening home series, defeating Campbell 1-0 before narrowly succumbing to Coastal Carolina by a score of 2-1.
 
The College will play Presbyterian for the first time in seven years, with their last encounter coming in 2010. CofC has won all three meetings with PC on record by a combined score of 11-4. As for Charleston Southern, the Cougars have played the Bucs more than any other team, and boast a commanding 16-5-4 record against their cross-town rivals. CofC has won their last eight-straight meetings, and prevailed 4-0 in last year's encounter.
 
Presbyterian comes off a disappointing 3-14 season last year, but are already looking much-improved in 2017 after winning their first two games of the season against Furman and Wofford. PC has taken advantage of a balanced attack, with all five of their goals this season coming from five different players. Alyssa Leaman leads the way in goal with 14 saves and a shutout on her record already this season.
 
Charleston Southern went 6-11-1 last season and 2-6-1 in Big South play. Thus far, the team is winless on the road with losses to Jacksonville, North Florida and Coastal Carolina, but have won their one match at home, a 3-0 triumph over S.C. State. Sidney Doherty and Jordan Newman lead the way on offense with two goals a piece, while Alyssa Dellacqua bas been the team's go-to keeper with a .842 save percentage and 1.50 GAA.
 
Neither game will feature a live video feed, so fans wishing to view the action will need to do so in person.
