CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team continues its home stand with a pivotal battle in Colonial Athletic Association play on Thursday when the Cougars welcome the league-leading James Madison Dukes to TD Arena for their annual Pep Supper match. First serve is slated for 7:00 pm.
Series History
Thursday's match marks the 17th all-time meeting between CofC and James Madison. The Cougars lead the all-time series, 11-5, following a 3-1 setback in Harrisonburg, Va. on Oct. 12.
Scouting James Madison
The Dukes carry a 17-4 overall record and a 9-1 mark in conference action into the weekend. James Madison tops the CAA with a .149 opponent hitting percentage during conference play, while ranking second in kills per set (13.92) and blocks per set (2.41). M'Kaela White ranks fifth in the league during CAA play with a .353 hitting percentage, while Bryn Recker is fifth in kills per set (3.24).
Highlight Hitter
It was a highlight reel day for Devon Rachel in Sunday's victory over the Seahawks, as she established two new four-set single-match records in the Cougars' 25-point, rally scoring era with 66 attack attempts and a career-high 30 kills - including 11 in the decisive fourth set. The senior outside hitter finished the match with seven digs, three blocks and a .379 (30-5-66) hitting percentage, while also becoming the ninth player in program history to record both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
Diggin' Dynamo
Senior McKala Rhodes has been nothing short of exceptional over the last two matches, averaging nearly eight digs per set with two of her four 20-dig performances this season. The senior libero set a three-set single-match (25-point rally scoring era) with 26 digs at Towson on Oct. 14 before collecting a season-high 28 digs on Sunday against UNCW.
Filling the Gap
Peyton Eisnaugle has enjoyed a strong start to the CAA slate, and filled a crucial role in the middle for the Cougars in that span. The junior middle blocker currently ranks seventh in the CAA with a .326 hitting percentage in league play, and is on pace for a career season with an overall attacking clip of .311.
Climbing the Ladder
Allison Beckman and McKala Rhodes have each made their mark on both the program and the CAA over the last four years, and both enter Thursday's match ranked amongst the league's all-time top 10 in their respective specialties. Beckman is currently seventh in league history in assists (4.383), while Rhodes ranks 10th in digs (1,752).
Closing In
Senior Kennedy Madison is closing in on some elite company in the program's history, needing 89 kills to move into a tie for 10th on the all-time kills list. The 6-foot right side also needs 37 blocks to crack the program's top 10 in blocks.
