CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will conclude the home portion of its Colonial Athletic Association schedule with a pair of matches in TD Arena this weekend. The Cougars will host Towson on Saturday at 1:00 pm, and will celebrate the careers of seniors Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.), Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.), Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.), and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) prior to their 1:00 pm match with Delaware on Sunday.
Series History
Saturday's match marks the 13th all-time meeting between CofC and Towson. The Cougars lead the all-time series, 10-2, following a 3-0 sweep in Maryland on Oct. 12. Charleston and Delaware will meet for the 16th time on Sunday, with the Cougars leading the all-time series, 14-1, after sweeping the Blue Hens on Sept. 28.
Scouting Towson
Towson comes into the weekend with an 11-13 overall record and sit fifth in the CAA standings with a 5-5 mark in league play. The Tigers rank third in the CAA with a .236 hitting percentage during conference play, and are fourth in both assists (12.50) and blocks (2.00) against league opponents. Silvia Grassini (.368) and Olamide Sonuga (.360) rank third and fourth, respectively, in hitting percentage during league action.
Scouting Delaware
The Blue Hens carry a 9-13 overall record into the weekend, and sit eighth in the CAA standings with a 3-7 mark in conference action. Delaware ranks second in CAA play in digs (17.87) and are third in both kills (13.71) and assists (12.76). Maria Bellinger paces the league with 5.00 kills per set during league action, while Bailey Pearlman tops the conference in service aces (0.47).
Highlight Hitter
It was a highlight reel day for Devon Rachel in last Sunday's victory over the Seahawks, as she established two new four-set single-match records in the Cougars' 25-point, rally scoring era with 66 attack attempts and a career-high 30 kills - including 11 in the decisive fourth set. The senior outside hitter finished the match with seven digs, three blocks and a .379 (30-5-66) hitting percentage, while also becoming the ninth player in program history to record both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
Diggin' Dynamo
Senior McKala Rhodes has been nothing short of exceptional over the last three matches, averaging more than eight digs per set with three of her five 20-dig performances this season. The senior libero established a three-set single-match (25-point rally scoring era) with 26 digs at Towson on Oct. 14 before setting a new four-set mark with a career-high 35 digs against James Madison on Thursday.
Four of the Best
Charleston will recognize one of the most successful senior classes in program history on Sunday in Allison Beckman, Kennedy Madison, Devon Rachel, and McKala Rhodes. The quartet enters the weekend with a 79-40 overall record in their tenure at The College, and will end their respective careers with their names strewn across the program's record book for years to come.
Climbing the Ladder
Allison Beckman and McKala Rhodes have each made their mark on both the program and the CAA over the last four years, and both enter the weekend ranked amongst the league's all-time top 10 in their respective specialties. Beckman is currently seventh in league history in assists (4.431), while Rhodes ranks 10th in digs (1,787).
