CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Only two matches remain in the regular season for the College of Charleston volleyball team, as the Cougars embark on a road trip to Williamsburg, Va. and Elon, N.C. this weekend in hopes of locking up the No. 3 seed in next weekend's Colonial Athletic Association Championship. The Cougars will take on William & Mary on Friday at 7:00 pm, and Elon on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
Series History
Friday's match marks the 13th all-time meeting between CofC and William & Mary. The Cougars lead the all-time series, 11-1, following a sweep of the Tribe on Sept. 23. Charleston and Elon will meet for the 28th time on Sunday, with the Cougars leading the all-time series, 26-1, after sweeping the Phoenix on Sept. 21.
Scouting William & Mary
William & Mary comes into the weekend with a 5-18 overall record and sits ninth in the CAA standings with a 1-13 mark in conference play. The Tribe rank sixth in the CAA in service aces per set (1.09) during league action while averaging 10.78 kills and 13.74 digs per frame. Julia Brown ranks 10th in hitting percentage (.274) during conference play, while Lauren Moussaid is seventh in digs per set (4.39).
Scouting Elon
The Phoenix carry a 13-13 overall record into the weekend, and sit seventh in the CAA standings with a 4-10 mark in conference action. Elon ranks fourth in league play in service aces per set (1.22) and sixth in blocks (1.86). Kam Terry ranks third in CAA action in kills per set (3.50), while Maddie Jaudon is fifth in digs per frame (4.70).
Sweet Sweep
The Cougars registered a straight-set sweep at Northeastern for the first time since joining the CAA last Saturday to take over sole possession of third place in the conference standings. Kennedy Madison put down a match-high 17 kills to mark her 11th straight double-digit performance as four Cougars reached double figures in digs.
Closing In
Senior Kennedy Madison is closing in on some elite company in the program's history, needing only seven kills to move into 10th on the all-time kills list. The 6-foot right side also needs 25 blocks to crack the program's top 10 in blocks.
Slamming It Down
The Cougars' offense exploded for a season-high 71 kills and a .378 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win over Delaware on Oct. 28 to break into the nation's top 10 in both total kills and total assists. Three Cougars finished with at least 16 kills, as CofC posted the second-highest four-set kill total in its rally-scoring history, and the most kills in a match since the opening night of the season.
History Maker
Allison Beckman continues to solidify her standing as one of the best setters in program - and CAA- history, and with a four-set career-high 59 assists on Oct. 28, became only the second player at CofC to record four straight 1,000-assists seasons. The 2017 CAA Setter of the Year currently ranks second all-time at The College, and first in the rally-scoring era with 4,636 career assists.
